To facilitate motor vehicle owners to get their vehicles reflected on Vahan application, Punjab Government has extended the facility to apply for the same online while sitting at home.
At the same time, it has been clarified that the facility is only for those vehicles which are registered under the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, and assigned registration mark under the CMV Rules-1989.
The State Transport Commissioner (STC) Dr Amarpal Singh, highlighting the importance of vehicle registration on Vahan, said that it is mandatory for vehicles to be reflected on Vahan as the National Register of Motor Vehicles is maintained through Centre’s this application.
During checking of vehicles, now particulars of vehicle are checked by enforcement agencies through Vahan portal and mParivahan app of GOI.
“Therefore, it's very important that the vehicle is reflected on Vahan and now pollution clearance and insurance details are also reflected on Vahan. Vehicles not reflecting in Vahan may lead to issues related to insurance, pollution clearance and challaning,” he added.
The Commissioner said that now a person has no need to visit RTA or SDM office for this service, commonly known as ‘backlog of vehicle’ as the access of staff to the system to generate backlog entry has been blocked. “It is now in the hands of the public. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, this exercise will help in reducing movement of the public and will also make the whole process of registration of vehicle on Vahan more efficient and transparent,” he added.
He said that on the other hand, this will also protect the motor vehicle owner from any exploitation and corruption.
“Vehicle owners are advised to get the same reflected on Vahan by June 15, 2020, by applying online at www.punjabtransport.org,” he added.
