Paying tributes to the late senior Congress leader Mahendra Karma on his birth anniversary, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday launched the ‘Mahendra Kamra Social Security Scheme’ for tendu leaves collectors.
“Mahendra Karma was known as ‘Bastar Tiger’ for staying on strong foot while fighting for the rights of tribes," the Chief Minister said, speaking at his residence.
Forest Minister Mohammed Akbar said the scheme would be operated by the Forest Department. As the central-run scheme was shut down, the state government has started it at the state level. The claim will be given within one month to the victim family.
He said that if a tendu leaves collector's family head aged between 50 and 59 has a natural death, the family will get Rs 30,000. In case of an accident or total handicap, Rs 75000 will be paid. Partial disability will fetch Rs 37,500. It will be given to the nearest kin.
The Minister said that if the head of the registered beneficiary family is less than 50 years, then in normal death the family will get Rs 2 lakh assistance. An additional Rs 2 lakh will be given in case of accidental death. Accidental total disability will fetch Rs 2 lakh and partial disability Rs 1 lakh.
