Govt to launch Green ration cards for BPL families

The JMM, Congress alliance headed by Chief Minister Hemant Soren on completion of one year of Government is going to launch several welfare schemes. State Finance and Public Distribution Minister Rameshwar Oraon said that the green ration card scheme will be launched for PDS beneficiaries under which people living below poverty line (BPL) will get one rupee per kg of food grains.

Families living below the poverty line in the State will be given a green ration card by the State Government. Five kg of grains per unit (person) will be given by the green card. Under the Jharkhand State Food Security Scheme, only poor families deprived of ration cards will get the benefit of this scheme, for this fresh application is to be given.

Rameshwar Oraon said that under the scheme 15 lakh families will be benefitted as the State Government will provide ration at subsidized rate to people. On December 29, when the Hemant Soren Government completes one year the scheme will be launched. The government from next month January will provide ration at subsidized rate to green ration card holders.

The department of food, public distribution and consumer affairs on the occasion is also going to roll out the Sona Sobran Dhoti Saree scheme under which one saree, dhoti (or lungi) will be provided to 57.10 lakh families in State twice a year at a subsidized rate of Rs 10 a piece.

The Jharkhand Cabinet in October this year has already given its nod for the scheme. The Soren government is going to launch the scheme for the second time.

 The scheme was first introduced by the UPA government headed by then Chief Minister Hemant Soren in 2014, but when the BJP government headed by Raghubar Das came to power the scheme was discontinued.

Finance minister Oraon claimed that due to the corona pandemic, the revenue collection in the State has dropped but in the past few months the situation is improving. Oraon cited various measures under which revenue collection has gone up due to professional law, revenue collection has also gone up due to various initiatives taken by forest departments.  Oraon said, “Due to professional tax and revenue from forest department the government has earned revenue of Rs 530 crore.” 

The finance minister on the occasion also highlighted various initiatives and steps taken by government during corona pandemic such as bringing migrant workers through flight, starting Dadi kitchen for migrant workers, setting up Daal Bhat Kendras on highways for migrant workers.

 The Finance minister on the occasion also highlighted various initiatives taken by the health department such as RT-PCR test for corona patients, setting up isolation wards and other medical facilities.
