Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday inaugurated Oxyzone, a green area developed over 19 acres of land in the heart of Raipur. He planted a sapling of sandalwood there.
After the inauguration, the Chief Minister said: “The government is making consistent efforts to enhance greenery in cities. Oxyzone of Raipur is an important step and initiative towards enhancing greenery. We will have to make collective efforts to maintain the greenery of this Oxyzone.”
In the Oxyzone, saplings of various forest trees found across the state have been planted. Old trees have been properly conserved.
An official statement said Oxyzone has been developed at a cost of nearly Rs 11 crore. It covers over 12 acres of land near the Raipur Collectorate premises. More than 4,000 saplings of 75 species have been planted at a cost of Rs 4 crore till date.
Oxyzone has rides for children, open air gym equipment and a hub for birds and butterflies. It has lawns and a small rose garden.
For walks, Oxyzone has 3km-long pathways. It has two water bodies: one natural, the other man-made. Rainwater gets collected for irrigating the plants. A waterfall has also been developed with lights for night viewing. There is a selfie zone for youngsters.
