BJP betraying people by not handing over hospitals to city Govt, says AAP

Sunday, 18 October 2020 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday said that  the North Corporation Commissioner under the direction of then mayor Adesh Gupta who is now Delhi BJP chief in a letter issued on July 28, 2018 requested the Center to take over six hospitals and medical colleges under the civic body.

Senior AAP leader Durgesh Pathak asked , "If in 2018 Adesh Gupta was ready to handover these hospitals to the Center then why is the BJP doing politics and betraying people by not handing over these hospitals to the AAP government?

Pathak said, "The North MCD commissioner had written a letter to the Central government regarding handing over the hospitals and medical colleges under the North MCD to the Central government".

In this letter, the commissioner requested the central government to take over six hospitals and medical colleges under the North MCD which includes Hindu Rao Hospital, Kasturba Gandhi Hospital, Rajan Babu TB Hospital, Girdhari Lal Hospital, Maharishi Valmiki Hospital and Balak Ram Hospital. In this letter, the Commissioner noted that from the past 2-3 years the BJP ruled North MCD was undergoing a financial crisis, therefore, they want the central government to take over these hospitals, he said.

Pathak said, "In this letter, the Commissioner has clearly noted that the BJP has completely failed to run these hospitals. In this letter, it was also noted that this is not the first time when any department of the MCD is being handed over to the central government. Earlier, the fire department, Delhi electricity board, Jal Board, and other agencies were also, once upon a time, under the MCD but for various reasons and for their proper functioning, these agencies earlier were handed over to the Delhi Government ."

Pathak said that the AAP believes that this is a criminal act by the BJP to not handover these hospitals to the Delhi government despite an open invitation from them.

"Today the BJP ruled North MCD has called the house to discuss the matter of non-payment of the salaries of their employees. You all know that the doctors of the BJP ruled North MCD are protesting against the salary delay for several months," he said.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the BJP ruled municipal corporations have not paid the salary of the Covid Warriors, he said, adding that whenever we raise the matter in front of the MCD, the BJP blames the Delhi government for this. The Aam Aadmi Party government of Delhi has written to the BJP ruled MCD to hand over their Hospitals if they cannot manage but the BJP has not responded to the matter yet, he added.
