Monday, 19 October 2020 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

The national Capital reported 422 cases of dengue this year till October 10 with 59 fresh cases reported last week. Fifteen new cases of malaria and two cases of chikungunya also reported in Delhi last week taking the total number to 274 and 85 respectively.

According to the latest report released by all three Municipal Corporation, mosquito-breeding has been reported in at least 89,343 households and 68,229 legal notices have been issued this year. The dengue breeding checkers have checked 17,002,767 houses and also issued challans to 7,919 numbers of office and residential premises.

A senior SDMC official said that all the preventive steps have been taken to reduce the cases. “The key to prevention of Dengue is ensuring there is no clean stagnant water in homes and around, which does not allow the Aedes mosquitoes to breed, and therefore dengue cannot spread,” he said.

Dengue mosquito larvae breed in clear, standing water while those of malaria mosquito thrive even in dirty water. Doctors have advised people to take precautions and ensure that there is no breeding of mosquito larvae around them. They have urged people to wear full-sleeves clothes and use mosquito nets.

This year, the Delhi Government has also launched a telephonic helpline — 01123300012 and WhatsApp helpline — 8595920530 to assist the general public with dengue.
