XLRI goes hi-tech, books to be issued 24/7

Xavier School of Management (XLRI) as part of ‘National Librarians’ Day’ celebration introduced new features at its library—Sir Jehangir Ghandy Library.

The B-school has launched XLRI Alumni Publications Display, Liberty (Library Management System)—Softlink Asia, Bibliotheca Hybrid (RFID & EM) Self Check System–EduTech, XLRI IRINS–Faculty Profile– Inflibnet and I Love My Librarian Award.

‘Bibliotheca Self Check’ enables the library users to get the books issued 24/7. ‘Liberty –Library Management System’ is a very advanced browser-based software and its ‘Online Catalogue’ helps one to search & locate the books, know his/her account details and hold/ reserve the books. IRINS is a web-based Research Information Management (RIM) in collaboration with Inflibnet. This provides the overall picture of the publications and research output of the faculty members/institution and takes the academic & research community to the respective works.”

The chief guest, Francis Peter S. J. chairperson, CeRTEL - Centre for Research and Training in Education Leadership, XLRI in his address, suggested everyone, “Not to read good books and to read best books”. He also stressed that knowledge is the currency of the future. He inaugurated the Alumni Publications Display and IRINS –Faculty Profile.

Rev Fr Jerome Cutinha S. J., dean–Administration & Finance, XLRI inaugurated the Liberty (Library Management System) and Bibliotheca Hybrid (RFID & EM) Self Check System. He felicitated all the guest librarians and the library staff members with gifts. He also gave the “I Love My Librarian Award” to Madhavi Nair, Junior Librarian at XLRI who is selected based on her services and popularity among the XL community.

Anjana Dharmani, Fellow Student spoke about the congenial facilities and environment provided in the library which enhances the serious readings.

Madhavi Nair delivered the vote of thanks to the audience and to those who supported to make this celebration a great success. The formal celebration ended with the National Anthem.

All the library staff members with Mr. D T Edwin, Head–Library cut the birthday cake in honour of the birth anniversary of Dr S R Ranganathan and gave sweets to all the faculties, staff and students. The teaching, learning and research community of the institute wished all the library staff.

Explaining the launches of the occasion, D. T. Edwin, Head-Library, XLRI said, “XLRI Alumni continues their learning and research in various fields. It is very important to recognise their work.
