That people of tribal Malkangiri district still believe in black magic to cure various ailments was yet again evident when a sorcerer was caught on camera sucking different parts of a woman’s body in Kalimela block to cure her of fever.
Reports said one Dule Beti, a tribal woman, belonging to the Koya community of Urmaguda village, eight km from Kalimela block, was suffering from fever for the last couple of days. Instead of consulting a doctor, the woman went to the sorcerer identified as Kosa Beti to get cured.
In the video, the quack was seen chanting ‘mantras’ and performing other rituals in front of the woman. Moreover, the black magician was seen sucking several body parts of the woman, including her neck, shoulder and stomach.
Notably, superstitious practices continue to widely prevail in the tribal belts of the State. Instead of visiting hospitals, the tribal people mainly depend on local quacks or back magicians for treatment of diseases.
Earlier on July 25, a sorcerer was seen in a video performing witchcraft in the morgue of the Kalahandi District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) to resurrect a dead man.
