In a bid to harmonise greenery and to create safe and secure environment for the people who visit the Sheesh Mahal District Park, located in Shalimar Bagh, Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Anil Baijal is planning to redevelop and conserve the monument structure.
A review meeting was also held by L-G with civic authorities, including Delhi Development Authority (DDA), North Municipal Corporation (MCD) and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) on Wednesday.
"Held meeting to review redevelopment and conservation of Sheesh Mahal District Park, Shalimar Bagh with concerned organisations and other stakeholders," Baijal tweeted.
"Harmonised greening of the whole area with development of water bodies along with restoration of heritage structures is to be done with provision of basic amenities and security for the visitors in the park," he said in another tweet.
According to DDA officials who were present in the meeting, it has been proposed to remove the encroachment w hich took place around the monument especially the ASI premises and to address the problems of stray cattle around the heritage site to provide a better site for the tourist and visitors.
Further to provide safety and security for the visitors, the LG has also directed the respected agency to deploy proper arrangements through ex servicemen is expected to be in place by end of November 2019.
"It has been suggested to remove the boundary wall by ASI around Main Sheesh Mahal monument to provide proper information and direction boards and installation of information boards to provide knowledge and historical value to the public visiting the monuments. Further, wicket gates to be provided as per landscape plan," said spokesperson of DDA. Further, basic amenities such as seating, toilets and parking facilities will be provided for the visitors.
