The Utsha Foundation for Contemporary Art, which designed the Bhubaneswar Art Trail 2018 (BAT 2018), is hosting the Residency Open Day for a talented young visual artist from Odisha, Suryakanta Swain, who is the first recipient of a grant from the US-based Aadaan Foundation.

Suryakanta has completed his Master’s in Fine Arts(M.F.A) from College of art, University of Delhi. As part of his Utsha-Aadaan residency, Suryakanta has spent a month exploring Bhubaneswar’s cultural heritage and especially its vertical architecture.

In his work for the residency, he tried to understand how urban ideas were developed since the time of the Indus Valley civilization.

Suryakanta’s work includes drawings on paper. He has also made terracotta sculptural objects using traditional   techniques.

The exhibits will be on display on Tuesday (April 30) at the Utsha Foundation premises at the 2nd Lane behind the Bhubaneswar Club.
