The Power Employees’ Joint Action Committee has demanded the dismissal of the Managing Director and the Chairman of UP Power Corporation Limited for the employees provident fund investment scam.
The Joint Action Committee alleged that the  money from the power employees’ provident fund was diverted to a non-banking finance company with the tacit approval of the top officials of the  UPPCL.
Shailendra Dubey, convenor of the Joint Action Committee, said that Energy Minister Shrikant Sharma had himself admitted that an anonymous complaint was received on July 10, 2019 and the subsequent inquiry report on August 28, 2019 also confirmed the irregularity, yet the Managing Director and the Chairman of the UPPCL took no action. He said the top brass of the UPPCL owed an explanation to the power employees as to why they maintained silence for over two months. “Were they attempting to protect somebody?” he asked.
Welcoming the prompt action taken by the UP government against the two officials of the UPPCL in this case, the Joint Action Committee demanded immediate dismissal of the Managing Director and Chairman of the PSU power utility.  It also demanded that the UP government take the responsibility for the security of the money of the power employees.
Lauding Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for recommending a CBI inquiry into the incident, the Joint Action Committee said for free and fair probe, it was necessary to remove the top officials of the UPPCL and they be held accountable for the  lapse.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Dubey said the government should reconstitute the UPPCL provident fund trust and include representatives of the employees in it.
