The National Students Union of India (NSUI) would hold a march to the residence of Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Saturday.
Addressing media persons at Rajiv Bhawan, the State headquarters of Congress party here on Friday, the state in-charge of the NSUI, Ashutosh Sharma said that the students in colleges and universities of the State are suffering from acute shortage of teachers but the StateGovernment is doing nothing to address the issue.
He said that the NSUI is on path of agitation on the issue for last many months and on July 14, the organisation had gheraoed the residence of minister of State for higher education, Dhan Singh Rawat.
Sharma claimed that on that day the minister had assured that before August 1, temporary and permanent teachers would be appointed in all the colleges.
He said that the assurance of the minister proved wrong against which the NSUI is holding agitation in different colleges of the State. On August 27, NSUI staged lock out in 40 colleges of the State.
The State president of the organisation Mohan Bhandari said that the recent decision of the State Government to remove the semester system in the undergraduate courses is highly deplorable.
He claimed that the Government has taken the decision to provide electoral benefit to the ABVP in the ensuing student union elections in the colleges and universities of the State. Bhandari said that this decision has resulted in two types of the systems in academics in the State and has created confusion in the students. He demanded that the Government should have taken students in confidence before going ahead with the decision to abolish semester system.
The NSUI leaders alleged that the minister Dhan Singh Rawat is showing more interest in the affairs of student’s union elections than in solving problems faced by the students. They resolved that the organisation would hold a massive demonstration during their march to CM’s residence on Saturday.
