Tatanagar railway station will soon get a pathway covered with overhead shed that will lead to the old railway foot overbridge. Moreover, a ramp will come up connecting the new foot overbridge and the second entry at the Burmamines-end.
According to information, the engineering department has worked out elaborate details about the pathway and other projects which will be implemented as a part of station development plan. The new initiatives are aimed at passengers convenience H K Balmuchu, the station director said the pathway which will help in smooth passage of passengers inside the station. Sometimes during rush hours there is a huge crowd at the portico area and the main entrance. With the construction of the new pathway with overhead sheds it will help passengers to enter as well as exit from the station without much trouble.
The senior railway official revealed that for accommodating more passengers five more retiring rooms would be renovated by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation ( IRCTC) on the first floor of the main station building. " The five renovated retiring rooms would be ready for passengers by March next year," he said.
Meanwhile, Chakradharpur railway division is also making efforts to develop amenities at Adityapur, a B-category railway station, located 5 Kms away from Tatanagar. Adityapur railway station hosts 15 pairs of trains and witnesses an average daily footfall of 20,000 passengers Officials of the railway station informed that the second foot overbridge is designed to help passengers to enter into platform no. 2, 3, 4 and 5. The second foot overbridge would be later extended upto the Burmamines end, which serves as the second entry to the Tatanagar railway station.
The engineering wing of Chakradharpur railway division began work on the foot overbridge project in December, 2017. The project missed two deadlines.
Tatanagar railway station, located on the Howrah-Mumbai main line, witnesses 45 pairs of express, mail and passenger trains, serving as many as 60,000 passengers daily. Most of the long distance and high profile trains including Bhubaneshwar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Howrah-Mumbai Duronto Express and Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Superast Express usually halt in platform no. 2,3 4 and 5.
