Mother, daughter killed as two LPG cylinders explode

In a tragic incident, two woman died and one man sustained injuries after the two Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders exploded while one of them was being refilled. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning at northeast Delhi's Karawal Nagar area.

The deceased have been identified as Rambiri (62) and her daughter Hemlata (38) while the injured has been identified as Rajesh (42), all residents of Karawal Nagar. Police said that Rajesh was running a general store and he used to fill small LPG cylinders in the area. 

According to Atul Garg, Chief Fire Officer (CFO), Delhi Fire Service (DFS), a call regarding the incident was received at 10:45 AM on Tuesday following which two fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

“Two women had died on spot while Rajesh was rushed to Guru Tej Bahadur (GTB) hospital where he is undergoing treatment and his condition is said to be stable,” said Garg.

“During initial investigation, it was revealed that the cause of fire was explosion in cylinder. A small cylinder was being refilled by domestic LPG cylinder when the incident occurred,” said Garg.

“Rajesh was filling small cylinder at the house of Rambiri when due to leakage the cylinder caught fire and exploded. Inquest proceeding have been initiated. Further who ever will be found guilty, action will be taken against the accused person,” said a senior police official adding that further investigation is going on.
