Long-awaited MCD board meeting held

Friday, 01 March 2019 | PNS | DEHRADUN

About three months after the mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ assumed charge as the mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD), the first board meeting was held on Thursday. Many proposals forwarded by the councillors  and approved by the  officials were passed during the board meeting. Tehri MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, MLA and former mayor Vinod Chamoli  and MLAs- Ganesh Joshi, Khajan Das and Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’- were among others aside from the councillors present at the meeting. Five committees were formed during the board meeting and most of the  proposals which figured in the agenda were passed.

In an important decision, the  civic board decided that the slaughterhouses would  be run on the public-private partnership (PPP) mode. A company would be assigned with the task of  setting up a new slaughterhouse in the city for which MCD would provide the land. After the  new one comes up the old one would be closed. It was also decided that a company would be entrusted with the work  of capping the Shastradhara trenching ground which would further help the place to turn into a park.

The meeting was informed that around 32 plots of lands have been identified by MCD which can be given for the commercial purpose, something which would help MCD bolster its income. After discussion, the mayor decided  that a committee would be formed to further the proposal.

In another decision, MCD  would hand over the unoccupied  shops in its complex to the seekers. Councillors, however, stated that the complex of the MCD is in a very poor condition and it needs repairing. They also said that the rent of such shops is very high. The mayor stated that a committee would be formed to decide things on the matter.

It was also decided that around 454 workers along with junior engineers would be appointed for the civic body through outsourcing.

During the meeting, the councillors pointed out that the services being given by MCD in some wards are not up to the people’s expectations. Officers present said  that a proper system is being set into motion for ensuring door to door collection and lighting of the wards.
