The Income Tax department will tighten noose around companies, organization not depositing tax collected or TDS collected from employee in Government’s account. As per Income Tax rule, Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) from a person’s salary account or any other income must be deposited with the Government within a certain specified time period. Jha said, “The Income tax department has come to know that many private companies, organizations cut tax or TDS from their employee’s account. It is duty of the employer to deposit the cut tax or TDS from employee’s account in Government’s account, but they silently keep the collected tax.”
“The Income tax department urges the companies, organisations to deposit the collected money in government’s account; if they fail action will be taken against such companies.”
Jha, who recently took charge at Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Bihar and Jharkhand) region said, “Apart from these, the department has fixed some priorities in which the Income tax department will work.”
According to Jha his priorities include checking corrupt practices employed by Income tax sleuths, cutting down the problems and inconvenience faced by tax payers. He said, “The Income tax sleuths and officials should be ready and available to tax payers to solve their problems. It is the duty of the officials to ensure that tax payers don’t face any type of inconvenience.”
The officer also stated that apart from above priorities, the department work is also to create awareness among tax payers so that more and more people come forward in submitting their tax.

The Bihar & Jharkhand region has achieved a growth of 19 per cent in tax collection during the last fiscal. The Income Tax circle of Bihar-Jharkhand had set a target of Rs 16,475 crore tax collection, while the target for Ranchi is Rs 2,572 crore.
The department last year had pegged the target of Rs 2818 crore as tax collection, but could achieve the target of collecting Rs 2,186 crore.
