During British India, Kharu and his father lives in a village and have no source of earning. Kharu decides to try a job which is not really suitable. He asked his father to go to another village and sell the natikas to landlords in high rate. On their way, they are attacked by wolves.
To save their lives Kharu and his father offers natikas as wolves’ prey having minimal chances to save their lives. Kharu’s father tells him to run away only to become the prey of wolves.
From here Kharu’s life and motive changed. Wolves symbolically represent the evils of the society, while Kharu and his father represent the common man.
