Wednesday, 25 September 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

A girl pursuing MD in Pathology in Saifai Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences was found hanging in her hostel room under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday morning.

After preliminary probe, officials claimed it to be a prima facie case of suicide but family members apprehended foul play. A case was registered at the local police station and the body was sent for autopsy.

Vandana Shukla of Sector 12 in Pratap Vihar locality of Ghaziabad was pursuing a PG from Saifai PGI in Etawah and was residing in Typa 2A Block Hostel of the hospital.

On Tuesday morning, when she did not come out of her room, her colleagues went to check and as they pushed the door, they were shocked to find her body hanging from the ceiling. They immediately informed the hospital authorities, who called the police.

Deputy SP Massa Singh and inspector Indradev rushed to the spot along with a forensic team, but they failed to get any evidence pointing towards the motive.

Earlier in July this year, another medico, identified as Shailja Sachdeva, also consumed poison in the hostel but survived after battling for more than a month. In that case too, the cops or hospital administration failed to come out with any plausible motive. The matter is still being investigated.

Meanwhile, in Shamli, a 30-year-old woman was found dead at railway station on Monday. A two-and-half-year-old girl was also found near the unidentified body which was sent for autopsy.

Elsewhere in Azamgarh, a 16-year-old girl was gangraped by two men in a moving car at a village in Saraimeer police station area on Saturday. The girl, a student of class XI, was returning from school when she was kidnapped by two youths, who raped her and later dumped her near a pond on Saturday.

The girl somehow reached home and narrated the incident to her family. An FIR was registered on Sunday and both the miscreants, identified as Sikander and Rishi, were arrested.
