Jharkhand’s former Energy Minister and BJP leader Lalchand Mahto on Monday evening joined the JD(U) in presence of member of Rajya Sabha and JDU national general secretary and Ramchandra Prasad Singh, National Secretary,Ravindra Prasad Singh, and acting member of Jharkhand JDU, Arun Kumar Singh at his party office near Isari bazar in Bermo. Ramchandra Singh welcomed Mahto in JD(U) by handing over the membership receipt and a stole printed with the JD(U) symbol with party flag. Mahto won Assembly election from Dumri constituency as JD(U) member in 2000.
But later he switched over to BJP. During his joining in JDU, Jharkhand's election in-Charge Ramchandra Singh said that Lalchand Mahto returned to his house and we welcomed him in JDU.
Mahto has been vocal over the issue of OBC quotas, has been criticizing the BJP and Raghubar Das.
He said that it his party comes to power it will first end the quota of OBC and after that they will end one by one the quota of extremely backward classes and scheduled castes.
