The Delhi University Teachers on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the Minister of Human Resources Development (MHRD) Ramesh Pokhriyal saying that the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) reserved category has been implemented hurriedly without keeping the teachers belonging to the ‘General’ category faculties working as ad-hoc teachers for years in view.
The teachers and members of Academic and Executive Council (AC&EC) and the members of Indian National Teachers Congress (INTEC) demanded to increase the teaching positions and the need for grant of matching number of additional positions for the ‘justifiable’ implementation of EWS reservation.
“The reservation for the EWS category is a very good step but we the teachers feels that the reservation for the category is being implemented hurriedly. Firstly, inspite of the earmarked positions for EWS category circulated under DOPT roster, one fails to understand why the similar percentage of positions have not been added to the EWS so as to avoid detrimental effects on the category. Especially important is the fact that the stipulated income criterion decided to apply to the reservation under this category is going to adversely affect the serving incumbents in adhoc positions and rather displace them,” said the teachers in the memorandum.
The ad-hoc teachers who are serving in the varsity for a long time will be affected if the by EWS reservation. Thus, it is requested to grant matching positions either from the second trench of OBC positions or create and grant an equal number of positions for the unreserved category to meet the requisite criterion for reservation in the said scheme, read the memorandum further.
“There is a need for grant of matching number of additional positions for the justifiable implementation of EWS reservation. As the clauses pertaining to income are going to displace the serving teachers, it was imperative to create and grant requisite number of teachers so that the incumbents are not affected in any manner,” Pankaj Garg Convenor, convener INTEC and former member of AC.
The reservation for the EWS category was passed last year by the government India under which 10 percent reservation will be reserved in schools, admissions, teaching and other government sectors for the persons belonging to below poverty line.
