Issuance of ration cards under the State Food Security Scheme (SFSS) and the National Food Security Act (NFSA) is a continuous process and eligible people can apply to avail such cards anytime, informed Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Surjya Narayan Patro in the State Assembly on Wednesday.
In response to a question of BJD MLA Pravat Ranjan Biswal, the Minister informed that 7,28,169 families comprising 23,33,830 people have been included under the SFSS. Similarly, 86,88,268 families comprising 3,22,94,517 have been enrolled under the NFSA.
Eligible families, who have been left out of the schemes, can submit applications at the Ration Card Management Centre opened at block, municipality and municipal corporation offices.
The would be chosen on the basis of norms set for the schemes, said the Minister.
To a related question of BJD MLA Priyadarshi Mishra, the Minister said SFSS beneficiaries are being provided 5 kg of rice per head at Rs Re 1.
The highest number of 37,801 families of Puri district and the lowest number of 5,053 families of Deogarh have been enrolled under the SFSS, revealed the information provided by the Minister.
