Duo caught with leopard pelt, hashish

Two persons were arrested with a leopard pelt and 870 grammes of hashish in a joint operation conducted by the special operation group (SOG), anti drugs task force, local police and the forest department on Tuesday.

According to police sources, during vehicle checking two persons travelling on a two-wheeler were found to be carrying one leopard pelt and more than 800 grammes of hashish. They were caught at Baltir turn near Thal.

The duo have been identified as Balwant Ram and Girish Kumar, both residents of Pithoragarh district. According to the police the cost of the contraband seized from the duo is about Rs 4 lakh in the international market. Cases have been booked against the two under the Wildlife Protect Act and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
