DMRC floats tender for FOB at Punjabi Bagh Metro Station

Friday, 01 February 2019 | GAYATHRI MANI | NEW DELHI

Now commuting will be easier for the people of the National Capital especially the West Delhiites as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to construct a 300 meter long Foot over Bridge (FOB) to connect the Pink and Green Line at Punjabi Bagh station. Currently, there is no inter-connection facility for the commuters on these stretches. Tender for the same has been recently floated by the corporation.

Interesting fact is that, the Pink Line’s Punjabi Bagh West and Green Line’s Punjabi Bagh crosses each other but sadly there is no interchange facility because of which the commuters either take a long route to reach their destination (falls on Green or Pink Line).

For instance, if a person wants to go to Bahadurgarh City situated on the Green Line from Pink Line he has to reach Kirti Nagar and from there he/she has to interchange for Rajouri Garden on Blue Line and after reaching Rajouri Garden they have to board a train towards Pink Line to reach the Punjabi Bagh west. Similarly, if one wants to reach Punjabi bagh (falls on Green Line) from Punjabi West (falls on Pink Line) they have to take a long route.

However, this long route will be a thing of past as the DMRC has floated tender to construct the 300 meter FOB between these stations. According to officials, the budget of the project is around Rs 50.15 crore and is expected to be completed by end of this year. Also, the FOB will be only meant for the metro users especially for boarding the trains on both the lines.

“Delhi Metro intends to provide interconnectivity for our passengers wherever possible and therefore we are attempting to provide the same between the Green and Pink Lines by creating a halt platform and an FOB at Punjabi Bagh. The halt platform will provide facilities for boarding and de-boarding only and the bridge will connect it with the Punjabi Bagh station of Pink Line. Tenders have been floated for the same,” said a Senior DMRC official.

Officials further added that people coming to the city fro and to Delhi and Bahadurgarh faces lot of problem as well as they have to cross a total of nine station by wasting both money and time. The problem is same with Punjabi Bagh and Punjabi Bagh West. Thus, this upcoming FOB will solve this problem.
