Wednesday, 25 December 2019 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Any person can call on toll-free number 1099 to give information about accident or other medical emergency or traffic situation. The call tracker at the control room gathers information related to the accident from the caller and makes arrangement to send the ambulance to the site after analysis. This information was given at a workshop held on Accidental Response System today at the State Road Development Corporation.

It was informed at the workshop that this system has been implemented on 20 thousand kilometres on the state highways, national highway and main district highways falling under Road Development Corporation. This is the first project implemented at state-level for the assistance of accident victims. This will be probably the first project to be implemented on BOT model in the world. So far more than 1,300 victims have been provided medical facilities through this system.

Subject-experts gave suggestions for road safety at the workshop. MANIT Professor Siddharth Rokade said that there is need to pay special attention to road safety audit. A U-turn should be made where necessary, otherwise people generate it themselves and cause an accident. Visibility at the junction is must.

Non-performing signals can be dangerous. Such unsafe junctions cause accidents. He said that road marking is very important as this plays an important part in preventing accidents.

Deputy Superintendent of Police GP Gupta told that 1000 FRB and 150 FRB motorcycles are being operated under Dial-100 in the state. Dial-100 has satified 95 percent people by giving response in less time. He said that 110 persons are working 24x7 for prompt response at the call centres.

During a discussion on Road Safety Engineering at the workshop it was said that information about fire brigade, crane, police vehicles, ambulance and hospital must be available at the control-room so that the victims injured in the accident can get immediate response.

It was told that the mapping of hospitals was being done and that the plan should be prepared in accordance with the increasing number of vehicles and the public.

Subject expert Sudhir Nigam said that road design construction and high speed were the causes of accidents. International Road Safety Expert Jacob John, Road Safety Expert URS Scott Wilson Navin Kumar, Chief Engineer of MPRDS SKA Zaidi, Chief Engineer BM Sharma, PTRI AIG Prashant Sharma was present in the workshop.
