A special squad of the Commissionerate police nabbed a person from Gujarat on Sunday in connection with the death threat to Rajya Sabha member Anubhav Mohanty.
The accused was identified as Kalia Barik, a native of the Khallikote area in Ganjam district. He is a mason and was staying in a rented house at Jhanjirmangala in Cuttack city, police sources said.
He had allegedly threatened the BJD MP on WhatsApp demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh on April 30. He had asked Mohanty for Rs 10 lakh and threatened to kill him in case the latter failed to pay the amount.
The matter came to the fore after Mohanty registered a complaint with the Purighat police in Cuttack.
