A Customs official at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here has landed himself in a soup after an air passenger accused him of forcefully demanding bribe.
Sources said a native of Tamil Nadu, Kuppuswamy Nagarajan, had arrived at the airport from Bangkok by an AirAsia flight on Tuesday.
Reportedly, Nagarajan was intercepted by a Customs official, who allegedly forced him to pay a bribe of Rs 5,000 for carrying gold even though he produced all the valid documents.
The passenger confronted the officer when he denied handing him a receipt of the documents. It was only after CISF personnel interfered that the Customs official returned the money to Nagarajan.
Later, GST Additional Commissioner Santosh Mohanty directed for a detailed probe and said stringent action would be taken if the concerned official is found guilty.
