In a piece of good news for the people of the city, the  long-awaited waste to energy plant is likely to come up soon.  It is learnt that a majority of the formalities for its construction has been cleared and it is likely that the construction of the plant would start in a month.

Speaking about the matter, the project manager of Ramky, the Chennai-based company, entrusted with it,  Mohit Dwivedi said, “We are almost in the final phase of  constructing the waste to energy plant. Recently, we had a meeting with the officials from the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) during which everything has been discussed and fixed.  The proposal is now with the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC). The officers there are now firming up the tariff of the electricity per unit. The general rate of the electricity made by the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) is usually Rs eight per unit. However, this is not the final rate. Thingswould be decided soon.”

He further said, “If all the formalities are completed in time we would be able to start the construction work in a month. The construction and  the commissioning of the plant would take  nearly 16 months.”
