South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has announced to exempt some of the specified and commercial vehicles from paying “Environment Compensation Charge” (ECC) only after obtaining the Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) tag as per the Supreme Court’s direction.
A senior SDMC official said that the specified vehicles which will be exempted are CNG vehicles, oil tankers carrying petroleum products, water tankers, ambulances, and fire fighting vehicles.
Similarly, all commercial vehicles which carry goods- such as eggs, salt, ice, food grains, vegetables and packed milk would be exempted from paying ECC after pre-registration for RFID tag following the order of the Supreme Court, he said.
The official further said that the decision in this regard was taken after the latest instructions communicated by the Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA).
The facility of pre-registration and RFID tag is available at eight operational toll plazas- Aya Nagar, DND Flyway, Shahdara Main, Shahdara Flyover, Tikri
Border, Kapashera Border, Rajokari Border and Kundli Border, he said.
“The fee for pre-registration and issuance of RFID is just `200 and the GST. The owners can contact the plaza manager for any assistance at the selected ten toll plaza identified for pre-registration. The amount can be paid in cash or card,” he added.
According to the official, all unladed commercial vehicles entitled for paying 50 per cent of charges must have got their vehicles pre-registered for RFID tags for getting the facility for paying half ECC while entering Delhi from any of the operational toll plazas.
The vehicles which are over 10 years old will not be registered and not allowed entry into Delhi, he added.
The civic body had proposed to install new toll plaza last year, equipped with RFID system at 13 border points in the city in which eight has become operational.
