Cold wave intensifies in Bokaro

Thursday, 19 December 2019 | PNS | Bokaro

Poor are braced for worse in numbing nights across Bokaro district amidst piercing chill and cold waves since past few days.

Heightened cold wave with the dipping mercury virtually paralysed the normal life. Reeling under cold conditions Wednesday recorded as coldest day by the met department, issued alert and said the chill will continue in the coming days.

Bokaro district recorded a minimum of 6 degrees Celsius with one of its other locality in Gomia while in the hilly terrain, shivering at 3.5 degrees Celsius. Though Bokaro and Bermo town recorded a minimum of 6.5 degrees, officials of the Met department said.

“Temperature has dipped to as low as six degrees Celsius in few parts of Giridih district too while in the other parts recorded low between 4-5 degrees Celsius. The cold wave will continue for the next few days and people need to take more precautions,” said a Met department official.

“The temperature fall has spurred the cold wave, the entire state is in the grip of the North Wind, which will drag down minimum temperatures further in another 24 hours. The chill has intensified because of the strong and dry current, heavy snowfall in northern India is adding to the crispness of weather in Jharkhand,” he said.

Dipping mercury has thrown life out of gear, affected people of all age groups. Students and daily wage earners are finding a very hard time. In the lack of bonfire armaments on the streets, people are compiled to collect garbage, plastics, poly bags and waste material in every nooks and corner to lit to prevent them from shivering cold and chattering teeth.

The intense killing cold wave made the day miserable not only for human beings but for the animals too.

The authorities of Jawaharlal Nehru Biological Park (JNB) at Bokaro Steel City are struggling hard to provide warmth to the zoo inmates.
