Senior leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party from Uttar Pradesh, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, took part in the ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar Hoon’ (I am also a watchman) campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing, asking leaders to protect the poor.

Yogi took part in the campaign in Agra while BJP state president Mahendra Nath Pandey participated in it in Mirzapur. The campaign was held at around 100 places in the state spread over all the parliamentary constituencies.

While inaugurating the campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the country needed chowkidars and not raja or maharaja because the chowkidar was the true saviour of people.

Yogi said that as a sanyasi, he was the chowkidar of dharma while as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, he was chowkidar of Indian Constitution and the people.

“The slogan ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ has become a craze with the people who want to see India as a developed nation. There is a mad rush among people to call themselves as ‘chowkidar’ because they know that ‘chowkidar’ is the man who ensures protection,” Yogi said.

Senior party leaders and ministers took part in the campaign at various places.

Modi has launched the ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar Hoon’ campaign to counter Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s “Chowkidar Chor Hai” jibe. Under this campaign, Narendra Modi, Union ministers, BJP leaders, party workers and supporters have added the prefix ‘Chowkidar’ (watchman) to their names on Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms.

Earlier, the party had unveiled ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ caller tune which is available in all leading cellular networks.
