Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, his cabinet ministers and local public representatives on the occasion of ‘Hareli’ festival on Thursday (August 1) will inaugurate around 988 ‘Gauthans’ across the state.
Panchayat and rural development department has constructed 1112 ‘Gauthans’ across state as part of state government’s flagship programme of ‘Narva, Garva, Ghurva aur Baari (NGGB). The remaining will be inaugurated between August 2 to 7.
The programme targets to promote farming and boost rural economy, through cattle care.
These ‘Gauthans’ will act as a ‘day-care centre’ for cattle and new format of working will also commence within a week. It has facilities such as adequate shade, drinking water and fodder, with additional feature of vaccination and artificial insemination. A tube-well for water and solar pump has been installed for drawing water in each centre. The department is planning to provide green fodder through development of land for cattle grazing. This will also provide additional protection to crop fields and ensure milk production.
The centre will be also used for conversion of cattle dung and waste fodder as compost or vermin-compost to be used for bio-farming in village. The compost will be sold by women self help groups thus ensuring their employment at local level. The target is to ensure work to 10 families. Plantation is being done around and inside the ‘Gauthans’ to provide environment friendly condition to cattle.
