The Amity Law School, Amity University Chhattisgarh, organised a two-day national conference on “Cyber crime and women: Precautions and strategies” from March 28-29 in association with the National Commission for Women, New Delhi.
The prime objective of organising the conference was to determine the unpredictability of cyber space and the threats caused by the same to its users, the law school said in a press release.
On the second day of the conference, a panel discussion titled, “Techno-social – understanding the technical and social give-and-take in the virtual cyberspace” was held where eminent panelists shared their views on the same.
In the panel discussion, professor Prosenjit Gupta, member, Academic Council, Amity University, explained the various measures that could be taken to protect privacy in the cyber space.
He talked about understanding the privacy settings over various social media platforms and simple measures that could be employed to protect privacy and the flow of personal information shared online.
While addressing the session, Anand Shankar Jha, a Supreme Court advocate, talked about the finer nuances of the cyber law and the challenges faced while dealing with the legislative violations in cyber space.
He further added that, a lot of work needs to be done to subsume the neglected aspects of the cyber security violations so that the existing laws could be made more effective in protecting women against cyber-crime.
Dr Atul Pandey, chairperson, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Cyber Law, NLIU, Bhopal explained the various aspects of cyber forensics and its employment in ensuring online safety.
Addressing the gathering Dr. S.C. Mukhopadhyay, registrar, Amity University Chhattisgarh stressed on the importance of being selective about sharing information over the internet and the misuse of personal information available online by various sources.
Two technical sessions were held followed by the panel discussion on the topics- “Sociological and psychological aspect” and “Technological measures” where numerous participants from across the country presented their research papers. In the valedictory session, professor Prosenjit Gupta and advocate Anand Shankar Jha made concluding remarks and congratulated the law school for organizing the successful conference.
