2 units of Bokaro thermal power plant still shut

Tuesday, 01 October 2019 | PNS | BERMO

The collapsed ash pond at Nurinagar since September 13, 2019 has plunged the all two units of Bokaro thermal power plant into a grave crisis as two of its 500 MW and 210 MW units have been shut down due to the non availability of ash pond, said Kamlesh Kumar, Chief Engineer & project head of BTPS.

Sources said that power supply to the consuming States including Jharkhand and West Bengal have been drastically curtailed owing to the shutdown.

Power production at the plants has declined around 650 MW per day against its installed capacity.

BTPS sources said power supply to other states too has been hit due to the shutdown.

A DVC official said due to the sudden collapse of the ash pond, its two units have come to a halt and the power plant has no other option to its run.

The newly constructed ash pond collapsed late night on September 13.

Officials said efforts are on to construct its wall but it will take time at least two more weeks.

DVC officials have observed that buttressing work and repairing of damaged portion of pond has been completed but it was not fit for disposals of ash slurry.
