In yet another case of drowning, two boys of same age group drowned in Dhurwa Dam under Dhurwa Police Station here on Monday.
Nagri Police Station In-charge, Santosh Pandey said that a group of five boys, all residents of sector 2 area under Nagri Police Station, went to take bath in the dam in the morning at around 9 am. “All of them started taking bath in the dam and two of them Aditya aged 14 years and Piyush aged15 years started drowning then other friends are started screaming and one of them informed Dhurwa Police Station for help,” he added.
“Dhurwa Police Station team immediately rushed the spot with rescue team of NDRF but the boys got drowned in the dam and NDRF team extricated the bodies. The Police team recovered the bodies and sent Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) for postmortem,” said Pandey.
Locals said that the main reason for drowning in Dhurva dam is that the dam slop is more than 12 feet in many places at the next step of two feet. In such a way, those who come to bath in the dam are not able to get an accurate understanding of the depth.
Suddenly, they go into deep water. Those who know swimming are saved, but those who don’t know swimming, die. Now the water in the dam is reduced. But where both the students were drowned, there was only 12-13 feet of water.
During last one month a total of five persons died in the dam. 18-year-old Abhishek Vishwakarma died on April 16 due to drowning during a bath in Dhurva Dam.
Abhishek was at the Dhubra Dam for bathing with four of his friends.
