The Cyber Crime cell of Madhya Pradesh police has busted an interstate gang of fraudsters which uses fake websites to dupe victims across the country and nabbed two members of the gang from Delhi and Mumbai; most of the victims were trapped in the name of providing petrol pump dealership.
The gang operated from Bihar has duped victims to the tune of Rs 70 lakh across the country. The gang created websites with similar names and victims were asked to fill details and later in the name of registration and other processes money was collected from the victim in different bank accounts.
Two the gang members were nabbed by police from Delhi and Mumbai. The two miscreants were identified as Varun Kumar Mishra of UP who was nabbed from Delhi and Mohammad Anwar Khan of Mumbai. Technical skills owned by the accused were used to dupe the victims. Varun is Masters in Computer Application while Anwar holds Diploma in Web Development.
In the name of providing dealerships and agencies of renowned companies victims were duped. Victims were trapped by using keywords in Google Adwords. The victims were contacted using SIM cards obtained using fake identity documents.
Varun was involved in circulating 22 fake websites while Anwar was found trapping victims through 16 fake websites. The accused collected Rs 15 lakh by developing fake website http://www.petrolpumpdealerchayan.co which was similar to the original website https://www.petrolpumpdealerchayan.in. Police have managed to recover Rs 2.5 lakh from the accused arrested.
The police nabbed the accused after a complaint was lodged by Sanjay Meena regarding fraud through fake website for petrol pump dealership.
