Alternate Jersey

New Delhi: The fans and the media have been predicting for a while how the alternate jersey that Virat Kohli and his boys are expected to wear in the World Cup in England and Wales will look like. IANS has been given access to the look of the jersey and it's rear side is orange in colour as compared to the original blue. Speaking about it, a source in the know of developments said that it is not exactly an away jersey, as many people are putting it, but an alternate jersey as per the new playing rules of the International Cricket Council (ICC). "There has been a lot of talks and speculation and people have been calling it an away jersey. But it isn't. It is an alternate jersey that the team will wear when they play England on June 30. As per the new rules, the hosts get to retain their jersey colour when they play an ICC event. Since India also have a blue jersey like England, there is a slight change in colour," the source explained.

Special feeling

LONDON: Imran Tahir admitted it was hard to keep his emotions in check as the leg-spinner made his 100th one-day international appearance against Bangladesh. Tahir is only the second specialist spinner after Nicky Boje to reach a century of ODI caps for the Proteas. The 40-year-old said reaching the landmark of 100 matches was an emotional moment for him. "It feels really special. If I look back I played my first game at the 2011 World Cup, it has been an amazing journey," Tahir said ahead of the match. "I always dreamt about it but I never thought I would be here one day playing in my 100th game for South Africa. "It is an absolute honour to have been given the opportunity by Cricket South Africa and the lovely people from South Africa, I am grateful to everybody." Tahir has been a spearhead of the Proteas' attack since making his debut at the 2011 Cricket World Cup, with a career tally of 164 wickets.

Double Trouble

LONDON: South Africa's injury list grew as Lungi Ngidi, the young pace bowler, limped off the field during their game against Bangladesh at The Oval with hamstring trouble. Ngidi, who went for 34 runs in his four overs on the morning, walked back to the dressing room at the conclusion of the seventh over of the match. It was later confirmed that he would not take the ball again for the rest of the game, and had been ruled out of the match with, according to the commentary team, concern about his left hamstring. It comes as another blow for Faf du Plessis' side, who have made no secret of their intention to attack with pace.

Bowling woes

Southampton : He broke many a records with his batting but Virat Kohli, the medium-pacer, could have had a lot more than eight international wickets if his teammates believed in his bowling ability like he himself does. Kohli, albeit in a lighter vein, explained why he has not bowled in international cricket since December 2017. "It was the during the ODI series in Sri Lanka (in 2017) where we had almost won everything, I asked MS (Dhoni) if I could bowl. Just when I was getting ready to roll my arm over, Bumrah (Jasprit) shouted from the boundary and said 'no joking around, it is an international game'. "No one in the team believes in my bowling but I do. After that I had back issues and then never bowled (in the middle)," said the Indian captain. Kohli, however, still bowls in the nets, most recently in a practice session here earlier this week.
