Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Tuesday inaugurated the newly renovated Dichaon Kalan depot to provide the facility to accommodate 300 low floor buses of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). Earlier, the depot was operated for standard floor buses under cluster scheme, but now low floor buses will be operated from the depot.
According to officials, subsequent to the scrapping of old age standard floor buses, after completion of their life, the operations of these buses were stopped from Dichaon Kalan Depot. Now, 80 low floor DTC buses will be operated from this depot for 16 routes. These routes are No.539A, 578, 701, 728, 764, 817A, 819, 827, 828A, 829, 835, 844, 845, 848, 878, and 978.
"I have kept my promise that DTC Dichaun Kalan depot will not be closed. The depot has been fully renovated to house 80 Low Floor Buses. This will further strengthen public transport in rural parts of Delhi. All this is happening under the able leadership of the Chief Minister," said the
transport minister in a tweet post.
Gahlot also accorded approval to the DTC's request to start new bus Route No.809 and 876 from this depot. "Earlier this depot was operated with Standard Floor Busesand was closed few years back. Due to heavy demand from the public, this depot was renovated with state of the art infrastructure and will operate with 80 buses and will cater to the needs of Najafgarh and adjoining villages," said the officials.
"DTC buses will be increased keeping in view the convenience of the commuters. In this line 1000 CNG buses and 300 Electric buses will be added to the fleet of DTC soon. Electric bus depot will also be provided in the rural area," said Gahlot while inaugurating the depot.
Besides, the minister also distributed joining letters for training to 332 newly recruited conductors, including 29 women conductors on compassionate ground and honoured 40 Senior Citizens (DTC Ex-employees) for their contribution and excellent service on this occasion by offering shawl. He also handed over a cheque of Rs 12 lakhs from CM Relief fund to the parents/family of Late Nitesh Kumar, Ex-Conductor, who expired while on duty.
