Dr.V Maitreyan, the AIADMK’s Rajya Sabha member and the party’s New Delhi face, is a disappointed man nowadays. As per party sources, he doesn’t suit in the game plan of AIADMK and that is why, he has not been given any responsibilities by the party leadership for poll campaign.
“Both O Panneerselvam and Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswamy keep me off and do not consult me on any issues. I don’t know the reason for their indifference,” Dr Mythreyan told The Pioneer on Friday.
Dr Maitreyan was the first senior leader of the AIADMK who came to the help of Panneerselvam in February 2017 when the latter was removed as the Chief Minister of the State by the cabal surrounding the then general secretary of the party, V K Sasikala. Other leaders like K P Munusamy, P H Pandian and Natham Vuswanathan joined the “Dharma Yudham” by Panneerselvam only afterwards.
He also played a significant role in uniting both the factions of the AIADMK and easing out the Sasikala TTV Dhinakaran gang from the party. Maitreyan’s tenure in Rajya Sabha comes to an end in July 2019. “I do not think these people would re nominate me to the Upper House. I am disappointed over the indifference being shown to me by the party,” said the medical doctor.
Discontentment is galore in the AIADMK over denial of seats to sitting members of the House. “I can understand that the party has forged an alliance with like minded parties and is contesting only in 20 seats. But they could have told me in advance that it was not possible for them to accommodate me in the list of candidates,” said a person who was denied a second term as MP.
