Two passengers of an auto rickshaw died after the driver rammed his speeding vehicle into a truck parked on Mayapuri flyover on Saturday at around 5:30 am. The driver was severely injured, police said.
“The deceased were identified as Chand Bab (21) and Haider Ali (33), residents of Sangam Vihar, Delhi. They were fruit vendors and they were on their way to Azadpur Mandi when the incident occurred.
The passengers and the auto driver Taufiq (33) were taken to Deen dayal Upadhyay Hospital where the passengers were declared brought dead and the driver suffered injuries,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bhardwaj revealed.
According to police, a case under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (endangering life or safety of others) and 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian
Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at Kirti Nagar police station based on the statement of the eye-witness one Manish Bhatia.
“The driver of the auto has been arrested. The driver of the truck identified as Bablu is absconding and police are on the look-out. The owner of the truck has been identified as Balwant Singh resident of Haryana. We are investigating the case,” DCP added.
