Observing the World Heritage Week, the Bhopalites took a tour of Bada Bagh Ki Baodi here on Monday. The history lovers of the city gathered in large numbers to take a walkthrough of the historical step-well of the city.
Located at Bhopal Talkies, the tale of Bada Bagh ki Baodi is still untold and unknown to many people. Archeologist Pooja Saxena narrated the story of Bada Bagh ki Baodi to the Bhopalites during the Heritage Walk.
Notably, it is a three-storey deep structure in the middle of graveyard called Bada Bagh. The wide flight steps, which lead into a step-well was built by Nawab Wazir Mohammed Khan and later conserved by Nawab Qudsia Begum. The graves of Wazir Mohammad Khan (1806-1816) and his son Nazar Mohammad Khan (1816-1819) were first built here.
After the death of Nazar Mohammad Khan Qudsia Begum built her husband’s grave. At that time, the baoli was known as Nazar Bagh. A close look inside shows the ornamental structures that surrounded the well, are colonnade with cusp arches and slender pillars. This step-well was built around 1809 to 1816, she added.
Pooja also informed that Nazar Bagh was sectioned in four parts wherein in four elements i.e. air, water, sky and earth meet.
The Bhopalites also conducted a photo walk there as they were enlightened about Bada Bagh. As many as 35 students of MLB college and heritage lovers were present during the walk.
It is to be noted that World Heritage Week is observed to create a proper thinking about the prevention as well as making the people aware about the importance of the heritage. It is observed from November 19 to 25.
