SDM manhandling: accused persons sent to jail

A day after the sub -divisional magistrate (civil) Pratyush Singh was allegedly cornered and manhandled by an alleged land grabber and his associates at Bagriyal in Rajpur area, the superintendent of police (City) PK Rai said on Thursday that the SDM had gone to remove the encroachment on a panchayat land without informing the police. “We acted after we were informed and those allegedly involved in the attack on the SDM have been sent to Suddhowala jail after they were presented in the court,” he said. Earlier, acting on the complaint received from Humuk Chandra Pal, revenue sub-inspector, Tehsil (civil) a case under sections 148/332/353/504/506/307 of IPC and appropriate sections of 7 criminal law amendment Act has been registered against Chiranjeev Kumar Sharma, Raju Sharma, Rinji Sharma, Priya Sharma, Vishal, Naved Ahmed, Shahnawaz, F Choudhary, Salman and some other unidentified persons in Rajpur police station on Thursday.

SP said that local police had not been informed by SDM that he was going to remove illegal construction on government lands at Bagriyal village.  “ The attackers had torn SDM’s cloth. He sustained injuries on several parts of his body. SDM’s medical examination was conducted on Thursday,” he added.

Sources said that on the direction of DM, SDM had gone to remove the encroached lands based on complaint received from a high profile person.

Sources said that land grabber had encroached around two and half bigha land of gram sabha, Bagriyal. The district administration had received complaint regarding the same a few days ago. SDM had inspected the area on Wednesday evening and found that the land was illegally encroached and a dairy was operating from there. When SDM tried to enquire about the land, a person named Chiranjeev Sharma was found at encroached land and he asked SDM to show his identity card. SDM said that on the direction of DM, he had reached here to free the encroached the land. Then Sharma shouted and some persons started reaching the place with sticks and bamboos. They had cornered SDM. later SDM was manhandled by them and tore SDM’s cloth. One of them hit SDM with stick but a village lakshman Singh Rawat is reported to intervene and stick hot lakshman Singh Rawat who fell on the ground. Some villagers helped SDM to come out from the crowd. lekhpal had registered a complaint against Chiranjeev Sharma, his brother Rajveev Sharma and half dozen other persons in the Rajpur Police Station on Thursday. Police acted swiftly after being informed about SDM was attacked by some persons. ADM Arvind Pandey and SP City PK Rai rushed to the spot and arrested Chranjeev and other six persons from the village. Illegal construction at gram panchayat land was destroyed with the help JCB. Rajpur police station officer Arvind Singh said that a pistol, knife, sticks, bamboos have been received from Sharma’s house after raid was conducted by the police. Sharma had not procured license of the seized pistol. It should be mentioned here that team led by Tehsildar MC Ramola and Nayab Tehsildar Jaspal Rana had reached the same place around three days ago to free the encroached gram sabha land. Sharma brothers had manhandled with the team members and he had escaped from the spot. Sources said that land grabber Sharma brothers are reported to be native of Assam and he had constructed building illegal few years ago and administration was informed by the local residents but nothing had happened. It has been suspected that with the help of revenue police, the accused had constructed building.
