The ambitious Rani Jhansi Grade Separator will be commissioned on October 16 this month. North Delhi Mayor Aadesh Gupta on Thursday inspected the Grade Separator and announced that it would be inaugurated by Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri.
He said the project would ease traffic flow between ISBT Kashmere Gate and Karol Bagh areas. It's commissioning would help in improving overall traffic movement in this part of central Delhi. Mayor said that we had faced lot of challenges in construction of this project but we kept on the project and finally it is ready for the service to citizens. He said free flow of traffic would help in reducing the pollution as well save fuel.
The 1.6-km-long flyover from near St Stephen's Hospital to Filmistaan Cinema once open for vehicular movement, it will provide relief to the citizens particularly of Shakti Nagar, Karol Bagh, Gulabi Bagh, Kamla Nagar, Sadar Bazar, Paharganj, Azad Market and surrounding areas. The project was delayed due to the multiple agencies responsible for removing roadblocks.
The very fact that the main bottlenecks at Filmistan crossing and Azad Market took almost eight years to be completed tells the sordid saga of bureaucratic and political apathy.
The continuous deadline breach has escalated the project cost by Rs 547 crore more than the originally sanctioned one. The cost originally was pegged at Rs 177 crore that further increased to Rs 724 crore.
