A ‘Pink Auto’ service for women commuters has been launched in Rourkela. The scheme is meant for self-employment of women under the National Urban livelihood Mission (NUlM).
The scheme envisages e-autos (pink colour) driven exclusively by women.
There is no restriction on taking male passengers.
In the first phase, 21 women in the city have availed the scheme and are successfully driving their autos, said Rourkela ADM Monisha Banerjee. Each e-auto costs Rs 1,83,000. Each applicant availed bank loan of Rs 1,73,000 at a monthly EMI of Rs 3,900 payable in 57 instalments. The cost of running the autos is extremely low as they can go 65-80 km for every eight hours of charging. The scheme is environment-friendly.
