Paradip police's acts shock public

Monday, 12 February 2018 | PNS | PARADIP

The case pertaining to the conflict between Paradip Municipality Councillor Manas Biswal and advocate Debabrata Sahoo and many other incidents have brought to the fore the highly questionable acts of the Paradip police.

On January 30 at 11 pm onwards, a group of people had arranged a Trinath Mela in the Badapadia Bijaya Market premises at Paradip led by Ward-15 Councillor Manas Biswal. The loudspeaker on the occasion made utterly irritating sound. Advocate Debabrata Sahoo was working in his chamber near the market. He informed Paradip police station IIC Subhransu Sekhar Nayak that the loudspeaker sound violated the Supreme Court’s guideline.

But without any legal permission after five minutes of information to the police, Biswal came with 25 people to Sahoo’s chamber and allegedly using unacceptable language threatened to kill him because he informed the police about their function’s sound box.

On January 31, Sahoo lodged an FIR against Biswal along with his 25 associates, who had barged into his chamber and threatened him. But the Paradip police didn’t register the FIR on the same day. Several members of the Kujang Bar Association led by its president ND Yadav came to the Paradip police station and demanded arrest of Biswal. They met ASP Bishnu Charan Mishra and IIC SS Nayak and gave five days’ deadline for arrest of the accused persons otherwise they would call a cease-work strike from February 7.

But Nayak immediately called his “intimate friend” Biswal and told him to lodge an FIR against Sahoo. Biswal lodged an alleged fabricated FIR against Sahoo. IIC Nayak registered both FIRs but didn’t take any action. The Jagatsinghpur Bar and Kujang Bar Associations called a cease-work strike demanding suspension of Nayak and arrest of Biswal.

On the other hand, Nayak raided four businessman’s houses in Paradip though they were innocent and members of the Paradip Port Banik Sangh (PPBS). Police arrested two of them, Chandra Sekhar Mohapatra and Jaykrishna Sahoo. Sangh members along with PPBS president Santosh Kumar Pattnaik met ASP Mishra to protest the IIC’s action. IIC Nayak and ASP Mishra assured that such police action against innocent businessmen would be stopped.

In another development, BJP Paradip president Kailash Chandra Sahoo was attacked by four antisocial youths, who are supporters of the BJD. But IIC Nayak is not taking any action as per law as he is under political pressure. So, BJP leaders gave a written complaint to the SP and the Collector for suspension of the IIC. The BJP team was led by district party president Satyabrata Mohapatra. The wives of the four harassed businessmen have made complaints to the Women Commission and the Human Right Commission against IIC Nayak.

The big question among the general public is why the DG of Police is not taking any action against the IIC, who brings blemish to the police image.
