NMDC organised Vendor’s Meet for its upcoming Nagarnar Steel Plant in a private hotel in Raipur on Wednesday where around 250 vendors turned up.
NMDC’s 3 MTPA capacity steel plant project in Bastar being constructed at a cost of Rs15525 crore is slated to be commissioned by the end of this year. It may be mentioned that the project is fast nearing completion under the leadership of Baijendra Kumar, IAS, who took charge as CMD in September last.
It is being taken towards completion by Prasant Dash, Executive Director & Project in-charge of Nagarnar Steel Plant.
Explaining the rationale behind, Dr NK Nanda, Director (Technical) informed, the soon to be commissioned Nagarnar Steel Plant is one of the most modern and technologically advanced steel
plant in the country. It is essential to create and maintain a pool of established and quality conscious vendors who would make available the required raw material to us on a regular basis.
Besides, once operational the steel Plant will also need to maintain an inventory of over 1 lakh items and spares. It is essential to maintain ready availability of spares and machinery to ensure smooth operations and to replace worn out parts.”
The Vendors interacted with the team from NMDC led by DK Mohanty, General Manager, Operations, Nagarnar Steel Plant, KS Rao, GM, Materials, NMDC, Srinivas Patra, Jt General Manager (Materials & Contracts), Nagarnar Steel Plant, and Preetam Kumar, Jt. General Manager (Materials) NMDC. The day-long interactive session saw NMDC officials outlining status of the upcoming steel plant and their requirements, and the Vendors from Chhattisgarh and across the country, on their part, expounding on their credentials and capabilities.
Several leading industrial houses such as Elecon, Tata Refractories, International Combustion, JSPl, Siemens, Fluid Controls, Bosch, Dozco, Rexroth, Ador Welding, Simplex Castings, among others participated.
The presence of an overwhelming number of ancillary industries servicing integrated steel plants was the highlight of the day.
Expressing satisfaction at the massive turnout of vendors from a wide array of industries Dr. TRK Rao, Director Commercial,
NMDC said, “The objective of organising the Vendor’s Meet today was to identify new vendors for supply of spares, consumables, raw materials and contractors for the upcoming Nagarnar Steel Plant. The turnout that we witnessed today gives us the confidence that we will be able to identify, select and empanel a trusted pool of vendors who supply quality material and services and can stand with us in the years to come.”
