Man protests teasing  of daughter, killed

Sunday, 28 October 2018 | PNS | Lucknow

Police inaction in a case in which a person was beaten to death by three brothers for objecting to teasing of his minor daughter resulted in the locals attacking the house of the perpetrators in Sumerpur village of Gonda.

As per reports, Babu Ram (50) went to a neighbour’s house last Monday to complain about his daughter being teased by the three brothers. However, he was brutally thrashed by the trio and had to be admitted to Community Health Centre in a serious condition.

Later, his family complained to the police but the cops refused to register the FIR and asked the family to save the victim’s life.

On Friday night, after Babu Ram succumbed to his injuries, his kin and friends became agitated. They converged on a place in the village and attacked the members of the other community. They even attacked the house of the accused but the local police intervened and chased them away.

Four days after the murderous assault on Babu Ram, the police finally registered an FIR on the complaint of the widow of the deceased.

Shah Mohammad, Dost Mohammad and Yaar Mohammad were named in the FIR.

But 24 hours after the registration of the case, no one was arrested by the police as the accused along with their family members were absconding.

The body of Babu Ram was handed over to the family after autopsy and the last rites were performed amid tight security.

Additional force, including two platoons of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), were deployed in the village to ensure law and order.

Meanwhile in Muzaffarnagar, a woman RTI activist, Nilofer, was beaten up at her residence by a gram pradhan’s sons for levelling corruption charges against his father, in Purbaliyan village on Friday evening. They also looted ornaments from the victim’s residence.

The assailants are absconding after a case was registered against them.

In another case in Muzaffarnagar, a woman cop’s jewellery was stolen from her luggage while she was travelling in a train from Shamli to Kandhla town on Friday evening.

A case was registered in connection with the theft.

The victim’s husband also works in UP Police.
