Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) M Ravi led senior officers and employees of the Plant in planting 600 Kanarj and teak saplings alongside Road No.21 in Sector-10 in the Steel City on the occasion of World Environment Day on Tuesday, a BSP press release informed.
The large-scale tree plantation was organised by the TSD Horticulture Department of the Bhilai Steel Plant.
Accompanying CEO M Ravi in planting saplings were AK Mathur, ED (Projects), PK Dash, ED (Works), Dr KN Thakur, Director I/c (M&HS), BP Nayak, ED F&A), Anurag Nagar, GM I/c (P&A) and RN Panda, GM (Personnel).
Speaking on the occasion, Ravi said that clean and green Bhilai is the result of the thinking of previous generation of Bhilaians and as a consequence we are living in a healthy environment.
He praised TSD Horticulture Department for its preparation to plant one lakh saplings in the township this year.
Ravi stressed on the importance of protecting and preserving the saplings. Terming polythene as the enemy of environment, he spoke of an action plan in the next two-to-three wherein polythene will be collected on a door-to-door basis and suitably destroyed. In addition, he informed of the efforts by the plant management to plant trees not just in the township area but also in the Plant.
At the outset, in his welcome speech, Anurag Nagar, GM In-charge (P&A) informed of the plantation of more than 23 lakhs trees by the Management so far.
This year also the department has set a target of planting more than one lakh saplings, he said.
Nagar informed of the proposal to plant 97,500 saplings in the Newai area and 5000 saplings in Township area. On the occasion, 50 Tikoma saplings were also planted in Van Vihar area of Maitri Baug Complex.
