After the seizure of as many as 30 country-made bombs from the premises of a soft drinks godown at Jharpada under the laxmisagar police station here and arrest of five accused on Thursday, the cops on Friday suspected political links behind the incident.
Police said all the five accused held for stockpiling of the explosives were allegedly acting on the instructions of Kunu Jena, the godown’s owner and one of the accused involved in the BJP attack on the Chief Minister’s Principal Private Secretary VK Pandian’s residence. Police on Friday grilled Kunu’s brother in connection with the incident.
However, Kunu’s brother alleged a political conspiracy has been hatched against Kunu. “We don’t know anything about the bombs. Since my brother was to be released on bail today, it is a political conspiracy to keep him behind the bars,” he said.
“From preliminary investigation, it has been proved that the accused had assembled 35 bombs and used three of them for bombing in the Jharpada area. The other aspects are being investigated.” said city DCP Satyabrata Bhoi. The accused are involved in several criminal cases including a bombing case in Jharpada and a series of other cases in Angul, Cuttack and Dhenkanal districts, police said. The police are on the trail of other accused and carrying out raids to trace them, said sources.
