Overlooking the zero tolerance policy of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan towards corruption, scams worth Rs 2,732 crore were committed in Madhya Pradesh in the year 2017.
In a statement, leader of the Opposition in the State assembly Ajay Singh said that in the passing year, 23 scams were reported, which amounts to around two scam each month.
Besides, in the year 2017, more than 150 government officers and employees were arrested for accepting bribe and in the raids conducted by lokayukta, assets worth more than 30 crore were unearthed. Corruption cases were registered against 11 officers and employees almost every day, he added.
Singh claimed that Madhya Pradesh has topped in 2017 in corruption. Countingt he scams, Singh stated that in onion purchase, scame was worth Rs 1100 crore, Rs 250 crore in pulse purchase, Rs 200 crore in diesel purchase, Rs 180 crore in RERA, Rs 700 crore in plantation, Rs 80 crore in RTE and others.
Ajay Singh alleged that corruption in the State also came to fore on the behest of ministers. On the one hand, Forest Minister Gaurishankar Shejwar took his family on a tour on government expenses, while on the other Hosticulture Minister Surya Prakash Meena helped his son and nephew in foreign trip on government expenses.
Singh claimed that in Indore, one contractor committed suicide only with one reason that he was harassed by PWD engineers demanding bribe.
He stated that the scams and corruption indicate that Madhya Pradesh government is neutral towards corruption and those engaged in corrupt practices are enjoying political patronage.
