A 24-year-old man was killed and his cousin injured after their bike skidded and hit a divider on the newly constructed Signature Bridge on Saturday morning. This incident comes just within 24 hours after two medical students died on Friday morning when they lost control over their speeding bike and fell 30 feet on Yamuna river bed from the bridge.
The deceased Shankar (24) a resident of Ghaziabad — working as a salesman in Delhi — was riding the bike while his cousin Deepak (17), who lives in Shalimar Bagh, was riding the pillion. The duo was on their way to the northeast district from Nangloi.
After three deaths in two days on the newly-constructed Signature Bridge which opened to the public on November 4 after eight years of construction, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday appealed to the youth to “be careful while clicking selfies and not drive at a high speed”.
“I am extremely concerned about the accidents on Signature Bridge. It is Delhi’s pride. It is my appeal to all the people, especially the youth to be careful while clicking selfies on the Signature Bridge and not drive vehicles at a high speed. Your life is precious to the country and for your parents,” Kejriwal tweeted. According to a senior police official, a passerby had called Police Control Room (PCR) at 8:20 am on Saturday and informed us regarding the incident following which a team rushed to the spot.
